Life Member Vale Notice – Roy Begg

It’s with great sadness that we advise that Life Member Roy Begg passed on 4th September aged 100.

Roy was a member of the Club for 62 years and was most famous for all his voluntary work on the golf course. Many would remember Roy and his wheel barrow wandering around the golf course picking up sticks and doing whatever was required.

Roy joined Mona Vale in 1960, was elected to the committee in 1965, and served continuously for 18 years through to the end of 1983.  During that period he held positions of Vice Captain (4 years), Vice President (2 years), and President for 3 years.  He was elected as a Life Member in 1982.

We were recently contacted by Roy’s niece Kris, who advised us that Roy was having his 100 th birthday on the 1st of September. We sent Roy a few gifts and a nice letter to congratulate his huge milestone.
Roy celebrated the entire weekend with his family and friends, and was very pleased with his gifts from MVGC. Roy commented that his time at MVGC were his fondest memories. Following the weekend of celebrations, Roy passed away peacefully two days later
