This December, we’re raising our hats to Gerard Kelly as he marks an incredible 20 years as our Head Golf Professional!
Gerard’s journey at Mona Vale Golf Club began at just 18 years old, when a bright-eyed boy from Cootamundra arrived in the “big smoke” to start his traineeship under Mark Dower. When Mark moved on a year later, Gerard found himself learning the good and bad habits under the guidance of Mike Seres. Over the next 12 years, Gerard made his mark on the Club before heading off to Noosa to take on the Head Pro role at the newly opened Peregian Springs Golf Club.
But as they say, there’s no place like home. In 2004, Gerard’s landline phone rang, and it was Mona Vale Golf Club asking him to return. He accepted the role as Head Golf Professional—and the rest, as they say, is history.
Over the past two decades, Gerard has worked alongside five General Managers, dressed to impress for countless themed events (who could forget his outfits for Ladies’ Pink Day or the Christmas Gala?), and has proudly built a reputation, in his own words, as “a glorified Mars Bar salesman.”
Gerard’s nearly always ready with a smile, a helping hand, and an unbeatable sense of humour. Gerard can’t wait to retire so he can swap his golf clubs for a V8 and become a supercar driver.....  We’re just happy that all those years of answering the same weather questions     
 every.    single.     day.     
hasn’t dampened his spirit!  
We’re so grateful for his dedication, passion, and ability to make Mona Vale Golf Club feel like home for so many members and guests over the years. Here’s to 20 years of incredible service, Gerard-and to many more memories to come!
