A beautiful winter’s day greeted 33 junior golfers from all over NSW as they took part in our 2023 MVGC Junior Open. The main event was an Individual Stableford whilst we also held a 2 Ball Ambrose event for our MVGC cadets that don’t have a handicap but wanted to experience competitive golf for the first time.
There were plenty of fantastic golf swings on display, but more importantly the sportsmanship shown gave promises that the game of golf will be in good hands with the next generation of golfers.
The winner of the day and the 2023 MVGC Junior Open Champion was Jasper Lee with an amazing 43 points playing off a handicap of 25. In our 2 Ball Ambrose event, the winners were Ava Penewi & Hunter Saunders, and quite remarkably, in their first ever golf competition!
A massive thank you must go to Simon, Kate and Tegan for helping organise the event along with The Bar Men, Jack and Fyn, for being the 1st and 11th tee Marshall’s. We had a great team of rangers for the day, that also included Tony Sedgwick, Greg Stanford and Graeme MacDougal ensuring that everyone could finish before dark. Without them all, the day wouldn’t have been run so smoothly.
Also, a big thank you to the members who kindly donated their ball credits to add to the main prizes and ensure that everyone received a goodie bag.
Players and their parents were also very complimentary of the golf course being in such good condition and this is great feedback for our Course Super, Nick and his team. They work tirelessly to get the course to where it is and we cannot thank them enough!
