My first thought goes to all of our members that are not able to currently play because of COVID-19 restrictions. I know that it must be incredibly frustrating. We are at the mercy of the authorities who are battling hard.
The Match Committee and the Board are investigating ways to redress the current imbalance of access to the time sheets between members in the local LGA and those outside this area who can not come to play at present.
With limited access for a significant number of members, there is inequity in participation in major events. The decision has been made to make extensive changes to the fixtures book in the short term.
During August while lockdown continues and with playing groups limited to 2 people, it is preferable that we play stableford events of medium and shorter lengths. This style of competition will be more predictable for pace of play and tee time scheduling, ensuring maximum available tee time slots are maintained.
Thus, the Wednesday and Saturday major events such as Cock of the Walk, Monthly Medals, T20 Challenge and black tee events are postponed during this month. Stableford events off the blue and white courses will take their place.
All Ladies events in the fixtures book for August are cancelled for Thursday competitions and replaced by stableford events (see KIT for further details).
It is hoped the Club Championships that begin in September may continue as planned.
The Match Committee will be reviewing this regularly during August and respond quickly as the situation evolves.
I appeal to all members to be aware of pace of play. Turn up ahead of your tee time, call up on par 3’s when able, move briskly between shots and keep your search for lost balls to 3 minutes. This will ensure extended round times are avoided!
Authorities are also monitoring social distancing, loitering in the carpark and players stretching the limits of current guidelines. Help our staff monitor and comply with these guidelines to avoid the Club or individuals receiving any penalty.
Finally, everyone wishes to return to normal scheduling, playing in 4’s and socialising after the game. Let us adapt to the current difficulties and look forward expectantly to their resolution.
Good health to all.
Cheers,
Graeme MacDougal
