On Sunday 14th March, the Club had 48 mm of rain throughout the day and night. This forced the planned greens renovations to be postponed until Monday 15th. Sam sent out an SOS to our trusty volunteer group and they did not let him down with 8 hardworking members turning up for a tough morning.
Sam and the greens team planned a very long day as the weather forecast for the rest of the week was grim. The coring machines commenced at 6am and finished around lunch. The sand was applied as soon as possible and needed time to dry before being pushed into the empty core holes with a total of 50 tonnes of sand being applied across the 22 greens.
This process usually takes at least two days. However, Sam and his team were finished by 7pm on Monday night. This was a huge effort by the green staff working a 13 hour day and they couldn’t have done it without the assistance from our fabulous volunteers who picked cores for most of the morning.
Hollow Cored, Top Dressed and Leveled
Today, fertilisers and amendments were applied to the greens followed by irrigation. This will complete the planned Autumn greens renovation. The greens should take 3-5 weeks to fully recover.
While the course was closed, we took the opportunity to complete some jobs that were much easier to do without any golf traffic.
New Concrete Pathway Exiting 10th Green
The wear issue on the 10th pathway was improved by leveling and improving the surface with concrete. Sam will raise the right hand side and the front to ensure a safe walking surface. Please keep off the pathway until all the barriers have been removed.
11th Pathway Safety Project – Grant Funded
Last year the Grants Committee managed to obtain a grant for $10,000 to improve safety on our pathways. The 11th pathway was identified as a dangerous surface in relation to the uneven and loose rubber material. The Northern Beaches Council approved the grant to remove and replace the current material with a new strip 900 mm strip.
Removal of Noxious or Dead Trees and Major Tree Pruning
The removal of dead or noxious trees has taken place over the past two days. Trees on the 1st, 5th, 7th,9th and 18th were removed. We also did major pruning on the right hand side of the 5th fairway, left side of the 7th fairway (which now allows balls to be seen entering the hazard) and removed the Cocos Palm at the bridge on the 9th.
