
Last Saturday, the Club hosted the MVGC Club Championships. The Club championship was played over 36 holes by Mac Marr and Tim Chambers. Mac had a flawless front ten holes being 3 under Par and 6 up over Tim. Over the back 8 holes, Tim fought back to be 5 down after the first 18 holes. Tim had a very positive start to the second 18, winning the 1st and 4th to get back to 3 down through 22 holes. Mac played the next nine holes very solid to take out the Championship 5/4.
A-Reserve was contested by Clifford Mann and Graeme MacDougal, Clifford started like a Mann possessed with two Par’s and an eagle in the first three holes. This solid play from Clifford continued through nine holes. Doc won the 10th and 11th to keep the match interesting, However, Clifford had a great day and won the match 4/2.
B-Grade was the clash of the titans, Ted Gilligan took on Barry Patterson. A very tight match between the old boys was expected. Ted holed a 35ft putt on the 6th hole for an easy Par. After nine holes, Ted was 1 up. The wind picked up and pace the dropped off. Barry not enjoying the windy conditions was 3 down after 14 holes. Barry won 15 to get back to 2 down. They halved the 16th and Ted took out the match on the 17th with a 3/1 win.
C-Grade was played by Steve Jacek against JJ Blagg, who is in his first year at the Club. Steve had a very good start being 4 up through 6 holes. JJ then commenced a comeback getting to 2 down by the 11th. Steve played the next few holes very solid and made a fantastic bunker shot on the 14th, winning the hole with a Par. Steve took out the Championship 5/3. Congratulations to JJ, playing his first Championship at MVGC, I’m sure it won’t be your last.
Thank you to everyone who came to the Club to watch the finals. It was a great day with around 50 spectators on the course and over 100 in the Clubhouse after the matches.
