Winter continues but spring is approaching quickly. The course is holding up very well considering the regular rainfall that has occurred over recent months. We are all adapting to the changes demanded by Covid-19 guidelines. For this, we thank you all.
Both competition and public golf is in very high demand. Please remember that all players must check in with the Pro Shop prior to playing. There are some new restrictions in relation to playing very early in the morning, these restrictions will enable the green staff to set up the course accordingly.
Course Care
Despite the wonderful work done by Sam Neylon and his dedicated greens team, you can also help greatly by employing these simple measures every round you play:
- Could all players remember to please fill and repair your divots on the course after your shot. The repair should be flush with the mown surface not heaped or below it.
- Also, it is very important to repair your pitch marks on the green to maintain the current greens surface quality. Please use the pitch repairers from the Pro Shop if you do not have one.
- If you are using a cart, please keep to the paths and avoid wet areas where possible. Spare the worn green surrounds if able, both in carts and with buggies.
- Preferred lies will continue in place in the foreseeable future on the mown portion. Please confer with your marker if in any doubt if the area is mown or not.
- Bunkers will continue at this stage to be without rakes and attract a preferred lie. You should make some attempt to flatten the area from where the shot was played.
Upcoming works
- Garden beds adjacent to the practice putting green, 11th and 1st tees will undergo major works commencing Thursday the 13th August. This will be a 2 stage process and should not impede play to any great degree. Access to these areas may be temporarily affected. Your patience appreciated.
- Course Renovations: Commencing 23rd of August, annual greens renovations followed by green surround repairs and coring will take place. Fairway renovations are planned for 6th of September. These works are undertaken to assist drainage, aeration of the soil and encourage root development of the turf leading to improved turf quality overall. This is the same annual process, which occurs each year at this time. Your patience and tolerance is appreciated while this process runs its course.
- 12th Green: The Board has reviewed the progress of the 12 green rebuild over the last 12 months. The desired surface shape and options for pin placements have not been achieved. After much deliberation, a decision to reshape the green has been made. This will occur around the 21st of September during better growing conditions. 11A will be in play and the green will be out of action for 6-8 weeks.
- Broad acre drainage -The Board will continue with its plan to water-proof the golf course. The 9th fairway has been identified as the next area to action. The 9th fairway including the wet areas in the rough will be done in late November. The will give a full growing season for the trenches to cover over.
- Practice net repairs are to occur in August to address safety issues there.
We appreciate your tolerance of these annual works and other projects which are necessary to maintain the course in the best possible condition.
