Course & Club Update – Friday 17th April 2020

Dear Members

As reported in last weeks  “Captain’s message”, we are reviewing the time sheets on a weekly basis and trying to ensure our members get the best and fairest opportunity to play competition golf. The priority booking sheet for Wednesdays and Saturdays is working well and members are taking the opportunity, if they miss a Saturday or Wednesday game.

Sunday Competition Changes

The booking sheet for Sunday competitions will change, as of this Sunday. The Sunday members competition will now run from 6.30am until 12.05pm. We have increased the sheet by 30 spots taking the competition number to 120 players. This will hopefully assist in the increased demand during these indifferent times. The Sunday social groups will be cancelled temporarily until the ability to increase social distancing and returning to groups of four. The social groups will be offered an 8 hole option of the 11th tee for a limited field.

Course drainage Update

The drainage work on the 15th and 18th holes will begin next week. This work is linked to a grant, which was obtained through the Northern Beaches Council in 2019 for $20,000. We must complete the works by the end of May 2020 or we will forgo the $20K in funding. The drainage work will be on the hill towards the green ends of both holes. These are two areas which still require roping off after wet weather. This work will rectify another wet spot as we continue our plan of becoming an all-weather golf course. There will be a temporary green is play, while the works are completed. We will not be using 11A as this requires a new course rating and a re-routing of the course. We feel it would be easier to play the normal order with a temporary green in play on the fairway. The drainage works should be completed in two weeks, weather permitting. The full course will be in operation on weekends.

Speed of play

We have observed that the new arrangements have seen some evidence of the return of slow play, resulting from failure to keep up with the group in front. This is problematic for late finishing groups, who may be finishing in the dark. A ranger will be on the course reviewing progress and positioning of all players. Please call up on Par 3’s, however, if you have lost some ground on the group in front, please use common sense with the main objective being “keeping up with the group in front”

Have a great weekend and lets appreciate the fact we can still play the game we love.
