Course & Club update – 3rd April 2020

Dear Members

I would just like to remind members on the updated information relating to the new booking sheet process. As detailed in my email on Wednesdays,  The new time sheets for competition play will be released on the following days and times. Some changes have been made to assist in social distancing.

  • Booking times for Monday is 8 days prior at 6pm – On-line bookings only
  • Booking for Tuesday (Open competition) Open competition, 3 weeks prior.
  • Booking for Wednesday is 8 days prior at 2pm – On-line and phone bookings
  • Booking for Thursday is 8 days prior at 2pm – On-line and limited phone bookings
  • Booking for Friday (social) Open 3 weeks prior. Members must call the Proshop for booking.
  • Booking for Saturday is 8 days prior at 2pm – On-line and phone bookings
  • Booking for Sunday is 7 days prior at 7am – On-line only (No further bookings at the Proshop)

While these temporary measures are in place, we will review the process on a weekly basis. I’m sure, playing in two balls will raise unforeseen issues or opportunities while playing the new two person format. We will play individual stableford competitions until further notice. Playing a fourball or foursomes in two balls may affect mental health and potential friendships, so let’s play it safe!

The new local rules are the same as last week, please check with the Proshop.  The locker rooms and down stairs area is now closed. The Proshop storage is also no longer available.  If you haven’t already made arrangements to pick up your equipment, simple reply to me on this email. After completing your competition round, please leave all score cards at the big white box located outside the Proshop door.

Easter Long Weekend

The Easter long weekend time sheet will run as follows. Good Friday will be a social golf day only. The recent restrictions has meant, the times available to the public have been limited and under our lease we must adhere to this obligation. I have spoken to the NBC and they fully understand that the next three months may result in some allocations to public play being affected.

Easter Saturday and Sunday will be as normal. Easter Monday will run the same as our Open Tuesday competition. (Timesheet opens 8 days before for members)

Course Update

It’s been a very challenging time for Course Superintendent, Sam Neylon and the greens staff team. Having an A and B team, which is split over a two week roster is proving tough. The Kiyuyu is still growing quickly due to the recent rain and humidity. Once we get through the next few weeks and the night time temperatures drop, the growth will slow down. The course is in great shape and the greens have nearly recovered from the recent renovation.

Northern Beaches Council Drainage Grant $20K

Last year, the Club obtained a grant from the NBC for course drainage. We have managed to get an extension until the end of June for the completion of the works. Rather than forgo the $20K in funding. We will carry out the works in late April and early May. The drainage area which was approved by council is on the hill near the greens of the 15th and 18th holes. We may use 11A or have a temporary green during installation.

We do need help to look after winter wear, please repair pitch marks and fill divots. Even though the bunkers have preferred lies in place, please make an effort to fix the area you have played from by using your foot or club. Please be mindful of the challenges we are currently facing both on the course and off. We are trying to reduce costs and keep the course and service to members to an appropriate level. Thank you for your understanding during this unusual period.

Hole in One!!

Congratulations to Robyn Harding on her first hole in one in over 15 years of membership, and under the strangest of circumstances as well!

With the course reopening on Thursday, Robyn was enjoying an extra quick round due to our new playing arrangements in two’s when she added a 5 pointer to her score on the 16th hole.

Her well struck shot tee shot, aided by a fair measure of “wishing it in” landed a metre or so from the pin and rolled straight in! Very mindful of our new social distancing measures and local rules in place, there were celebrations from afar and the flagstick remained in.

Without the clubhouse, the ladies have missed the chance to celebrate with Robyn and the Hole in One crown at presentation but we all wish her congratulations anyway!

What happened while I was away…..

We  finally got home after 3 weeks in India

Let me run through this little journey quickly;

We started at the top of the country where the Ganges begin , the water there  is clear as crystal. I thought it was a perfect time to go for a swim , so yes I can officially say that I have had a swim in the river Ganges system and survived.

After moving down through the country and visiting, well let me say, 1000 temples or more we stumbled onto another Temple where they worshipped (wait for it ) RATS !! Well let me tell you, that was an experience! Hundreds upon hundreds of Rats running around and the locals were praying their hardest. One young girl even picked one up, much to the disgust of the all the western women there.

Gerard’s funny video

Last adventure was to Ranthambore Tiger Park, where they have approximately 80 tigers there. Well after 3 days and 7 outings  we saw NO Tigers. Well I mean we saw 3, but they were around 400 metres away so that was a tad sad for us.

As we got closer to the end of our trip we kept on getting phone calls from our travel agency telling us that all Indian visas had been cancelled and that we needed to leave the country straight away. After checking with our airline we were in luck and our flight was still on schedule! So after 3 weeks we got out of there and headed home only to spend the next 2 weeks in self quarantine at home !

Let me tell you, this was NOT a fun experience. I mean how many RED wine bottles can you drink in 2 weeks (lots, let me tell you, lots! )

So the time has passed and now back at work , a lot has changed in the past 5 weeks with rules and regulations (whats the GO with toilet paper ?)

The good news is that we are still open for business, and Caroline has instructed me to put some stock items on sale. So this week and next – all golf Bags 30% off (Stock items only ,come and get them while they last)

Great to be back

Big thanks to all my staff for the hard work while I was away

Gerard
