Course Update – Bunker Sand Exchange Trial

The Bunker Sand Exchange Trial, which took place a few month ago has proven to be very successful. The bunkers on the 12th, 14th and chipping area have received glowing feedback from both a drainage and playability point of view.

See the photos below of the bunkers on the 14th hole following 10mm of rain.

As you can see, the new sand had no water standing and minimal work was needed to get it back in play for the members. The back bunker with the old sand was GUR, requiring significant attention by staff, who had to drain the bunker with a hose and prepare the sand for play.

The Board have approved $45K in sand replacement for all the bunkers, which have been recently reconstructed with the concrete bases. Weather permitting, the sand will be replaced over the next month in the following bunkers: 1st, 6th, 9th, 10th, 12th and 14th.
We will have upgraded 14 bunkers in total, plus the ones already done in the trial. This will leave a further 16 bunkers to complete the course, some of which will be scheduled in the second year of the strategic plan in 2025-26.
