New Fescue (Grass) Trial

In recent years, we have used ryegrass seed on the right side of the roughs on holes 1 and 11, but we have not achieved the desired coverage coming out of the winter months. Once the temperature rises, we transition back to Kikuyu grass, leaving behind thin patches that often require re-turfing.

This year, we are trialling a new seed mix, consisting of two different types of Fescue, in place of the ryegrass. The goal is for the Kikuyu and Fescue to complement each other, resulting in a more durable surface throughout the year. We hope this approach will maintain a stronger Kikuyu cover, with minimal to no areas requiring re-turfing after the winter season. Below, you will find photos of the areas being seeded. These areas will be roped off for a period of 4-5 weeks to allow the seed to properly germinate and establish coverage. During this time, the areas will be designated as “compulsory GUR” (Ground Under Repair), with drop zones allocated for relief.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to improve the course conditions.
