T20 Grand Final Results

Saturday late morning saw Mother Nature bare her teeth as the finalists in the T20 experienced a chilling 40km/hour wind roaring from the southwest. 15 degrees, wind chill combined with intermittent showers resulted in harsh conditions. No player would be comfortable.

The course played long with little run and set-up off the black tees. This presented players with a huge challenge for the day.

Could the leading group of Jack Reilly, Bruce Edwards, Angus MacDougal and Thomas Woo, capitalize on their Bonus point start earned during qualifying?
Would we see a bolter come from the field to snatch victory from the leading hopefuls?

The front nine saw below average scores after nine holes, apart from Brett Stanford (5 HC)  who had 18 points, including birdie on 7th and  Bruce Edwards (HC 2) had 16 points with 2 birdies on 3rd and 7th.

The wind-exposed back nine saw a disconnect between aspiration and performance evident in most players scoring. Exceptions include Hugh Mashman with 17 points, Angus MacDougal with 16 points.

Brett Stanford produced a quality back nine of 18 points, including birdies on 13th and 16th, in the windy conditions.

Brett’s performance of 36 points on the day was outstanding, and with his season 4 bonus points, he won the event with a total of 40 points. Angus MacDougal was second on countback from Reilly and Edwards, with a total of 36 points.

A small number of hardy supporters toughed it out and I thank them for their support.

I would like to thank Simon King for his work on this event during the season, Kate Wall for the presentation arrangements, Nick Taplin and the team for course preparations under difficult circumstances.

Next year we will have the opportunity to further develop the event with the new clubhouse facility.
