Message from the Captain

1)       It has been brought to the committee’s attention that some players are playing shots from very close to the greenkeepers workshop which lies in a No Play Zone particularly when playing the 5th, 6th hole and 7th holes. Please see the diagram below for the location of the drop zones and the marked workshop area. The match committee has marked this area for safety reasons.

2)      Blue stakes mark the site of compulsory drop zones. Effectively this zone is compulsory GUR. The drop is free i.e.no penalty for playing into these areas around the shed.

The free drop is one club length from the blue stake.

This drop zone has been adopted as a local rule around the greenkeeper’s maintenance facility since the 1st of June 2016!!

It would be appreciated if members would adhere to the compulsory drop in these areas to avoid damage or injury to staff and or equipment in the area.

On another note, a complaint has been made by some women members regarding the way male members are occasionally taking “urgent relief on the course” usually in the general area

This is a problem, particularly in medley competition, and thus where possible should be avoided!

Specific areas are available around the club house and between the 5th and 6th fairways in the temporary facilities for said relief, and should be the first option taking urgent relief.

Although not covered specifically in the R&A rules of golf or the PGA, our club has an unwritten local rule as follows, to be applied in such testing situations.

‘ When members are “taking urgent relief on the course” they should do so with great discretion to avoid offending other members who may inadvertently observe this action’

Thank you and happy golfing.
