Course open from Thursday 2nd April – message from the President

Dear Members

I can understand the frustration of members at the continual change in position concerning the ability to play golf at MVGC. The confusion has arisen due to mixed messaging the Board has received from Golf Australia, NSW Golf and Northern Beaches Council. This is not a criticism of these organisations but simply reflects the fluid circumstances surrounding this virus and the limitations put in place concerning social distancing and access to recreational facilities.

The NSW Government moved this morning to confirm the ability of golf courses to remain open subject to appropriate social distancing measures being in place and adhered to. Accordingly Mona Vale Golf Course will open for competition play and social golf from tomorrow Thursday 2nd April 2020. The arrangements and conditions of that access are as detailed by the General Manager’s email below.

I can advise that the reason the Club is able to move quickly to implement this access is that the Board had resolved these measures and they were largely ready to go before Golf NSW advised the course be closed last Monday. Please take the limitations and restrictions seriously. They will be enforced and any breach may have serious consequences for the member concerned as well as potentially leaving the individual and Club liable to fines for breaching the social distancing restrictions. Judging from the adherence of the membership to the restrictions during the initial period of the COVID-19, I am very confident the members will strictly adhere to the restrictions.

The current advice is that people over the age of 70 should remain at home and limit themselves to restricted activities as per the public health orders. We would advise that all members take this advice seriously and strongly recommend staying home, in particular if you have a current health condition.

These are interesting and difficult times for us all, however they are particularly difficult for our staff, who in some instances are no longer employed or have had their hours significantly reduced. Nonetheless the response from all staff has been terrific as we move to maintain the limited service that is available to the Club. I look forward to seeing you on the course and wish you good golfing with appropriate social distancing.
