We would like to thank the 52 volunteers who came out to help with the big clean up. Some members came out both days and for this we are very grateful. There were over forty trees that came down in the storm and many are stockpiled for removal. The tree contractors will be in next week to start chipping and removing them. Sam estimates over 80 trailer loads of debris and branches were removed from the course. This was a huge effort by the volunteers and has resulted in the green staff being able to mow all areas of the golf course. Sam and his team have cut the entire course twice since Wednesday, the rough is still very rough and I’m sure all golfers will experience some pretty ordinary lies outside the fairway cut. It will take a few weeks to get on top of all areas of the course.
The bunkers will be back in play for the weekend. However, there will be some local rules in place relating to bunker relief. The bunkers are free of water and debris, but the bases are still quite firm. The green staff have raked the bunker bases to help dry them out but additional sand will be required in the coming weeks. On a positive note, the new bunkers on the 12th hole, which are currently trialing the new concrete material, where unaffected and took very limited time to repair.
Temporary Local Rule #1 – If your ball comes to rest in a rut (picture below) on the bunker face, relief may be taken without penalty. The drop must remain in the bunker and no nearer the hole.
Temporary Local Rule #2 – Stockpiled debris and trees treated as GUR. If your ball or stance is impeded by the stockpiled debris. You are entitle to free relief. These areas are not marked with white paint. Please ensure you consult your marker before taking relief. If the ball cannot be found in the area of GUR. It must be beyond reasonable doubt that the ball has entered the stockpiled debris and agreed by your marker.
Clubhouse Update
Water damage was sustained in both the members bar and lower levels. Unfortunately, the boiler room was flooded and the hot water system is currently off-line. We are waiting on parts for the boiler, which means there will be no hot water in the Club over the weekend. We apologise for the inconvenience and hope to get back on line as soon as possible.
We also had some issues with flooding in the members bar. Overnight, we had all the carpets cleaned and odourised to ensure the best possible outcome. We are currently reviewing the ceilings and roof of the clubhouse to prevent this issue from occurring again.
