Our team travelled to Strathfield last Sunday with a challenge ahead against Bankstown for a spot in the quarter finals.
Weather was good and hot with a slight breeze. Course was presented well and with all the work they have done it was a challenge in its self.
Long par 3’s of 180 metres and some slightly longer, Par 4’s heavily bunkered and some very long Par 5 holes.
Our team did well over the opening few holes with nearly all matches very even throughout the field and at halfway we were looking confident.
On the back nine Bankstown turned up the heat a little, and still we were looking good.
Through the closing holes, Nigel Westgarth and Carolyn fell away, but Mike Radford and Ruth Blake got up 3/2.
Leigh Williamson and Suzanne Cole were only 1 down when our opponent sunk an extremely lucky 30 foot putt for birdie from off the green on 17 for us to go down 2/1.
Benny Gross and Colleen Fleming lead all the way with a hole in hand going down the last, only to have it snatched on the last to square their match.
Y.S Lee and Kay Hwang fought hard over the last few holes, being 2 down and got their match on the 17th back to Square to finish even on the 18th.
Sadly to say was Bankstown won 3/2 and were the better team on the day, but as I will contest to , our side did extremely well.
Thankyou Team for trying your best throughout the season, and giving up your time in the hottest part of the year.
Thanks again to Staff and Management for giving us the opportunity to represent Mona Vale Golf Club.
Happy Golfing!
Cheers,
Leigh Williamson
